DAHLIA
Mexico and C America
RF had a number of Dahlias; some of them were richly coloured and elegant, but of no interest to pollinators. Hoverflies and other insects preferred this YELLOW one. Removal of spent flowers brings on further blooms.
As the assistant gardener I could look on at RF’s success with Dahlias. But I was unable to grow them after he left… Sigh.
2019 – Dahlia from Homebase
These dwarf dahlias from Homebase did manage to survive slugs and snails, making elegant flowers. But there were no pollinators for them all season.
